Faith Foundations
CYO is a charity that is founded on the Christian faith. The basis of the Christian faith is summed up in the Apostles Creed, which has been widely accepted by Christians for almost 2000 years. CYO works and partners with churches from different denominations and traditions to empower and enable them to help children and young people grow in hope, life and faith. As such our staff, volunteers and Mission Partners are all committed Christians.
Why?
Our Christian faith encourages us to love and serve others. Looking at Jesus we see that He is both radically inclusive and clear in calling all to know more about God. The Bible is full of stories of Jesus spending time with people no matter who they were or what was going on in their life. Jesus also spent a lot of His time teaching about God and encouraging people to think and live differently.
We seek to follow His example, and that’s why we love chaplaincy as it blends these elements together perfectly.
Jesus modelled youth and children’s work; bringing children right to the centre of discussions and commending a childlike (but not childish) approach to faith. Most famously, Jesus told off his followers for stopping children coming and asking questions. Like Jesus, we want to encourage children and young people to ask questions and explore the Christian faith for themselves.
Finally, we work in partnership to put the Church front and centre. We believe that stronger links between school, community, and church provide safe spaces and opportunity to genuinely see children and young people grow in hope, life and faith.
